Tourism Volunteer (TourVo) Recruitment Program of Iligan City Goverment

So far, global results for the first half of 2014 are in line with UNWTO's forecast issued at the beginning of 2014.  The World Tourism Barometer continues that for the full year 2014, international tourists arrivals are expected to increase by 4% to 4.5%, above UNWTO's long-term forecast of 3.8% per year for the period 2010-2020.

For Region X, the year 2014 registered an increase of tourist arrivals by 26.01% compared to the figures of 2013.  These data simply shows the great economic potential of the tourism industry and its positive projections.  It is imperative for each destination therefore to prepare for the expected influx.  Based on the truism that the tourism industry is the biggest industry with its numerous sub-setors (transport, accommodation, food services, travel agents, communication, security, etc.).   The preparation should be on all fronts.

If we aim to be competitive with other destinations, all stakeholders should take part in the preparation.  While businesses prepare by upgrading products and services to be globally competitive, there is a need to involve individuals who can contribute to the growth and development of the tourism industry.

Thus, the evolution of this program, the Tourism Volunteer or Tourvo Recruitment Program.  This program aims to gather and recruit skilled, people-oriented, dynamic Iliganons who in their spare time contribute their skills, talents, knowledge, time andeffort all for getting our city ready for tourists through maintenance of cleanliness, beautification campaigns, promotions, receiving and guiding tourists or simply in the advocacy and inclucation of the culture of tourism.
